ICA by Station

Although there is currently no technical study that affirms the causes of the higher ICA indices or polluting sources in Cali, the report of the citizens to the entity and the characterization of the areas where the stations are located can give some indications.

From 2010 to July 2017 monthly report

Map from February to July 2017. It should be taken into account that the map by commune with the estimate of the monthly average PM10 was made by the DAGMA using spatial Kriging and does not correspond to exact data by commune or neighborhood.

, in Cali two ICA “harmful to health (red)” have been presented, the first on June 5, 2010 at the Mobile Station located in the DAGMA Municipal Nursery and the other on August 29 of the same year at the Univalle Station. While in the ICA "unfavorable for sensitive groups (orange)" there were 18 incidents, of which 17 occurred in 2010 at the DAGMA Municipal Nursery Mobile Station and the other on August 29, 2014 at the Air Base Station, which coincides with the "red alert", the same day the red alert was presented at the Univalle Station, due to the direction of the wind, according to Jefferson Valdés Basto, data analyst of the Air Quality Management Group. He also states that on that day a burning of sugarcane was reported in the rural area of Barrio Valle del Lili, which could have been the contaminating source.

It should be noted that not all stations started in 2010, only La Flora and Mobile Unit located in the north, located in the DAGMA Municipal Nursery, began to operate, which operated until April 2011 and was reactivated in June 2015 but now located in the El Poblado neighborhood. On the other hand, the Pance and Univalle Stations began operating in April 2013, the Air Base and La Ermita Stations in November 2013, the Compartir Station in April 2014 and the Cañaveralejo Station since July 2014, for a total of 9 stations.

According to the map of the last monthly report of the DAGMA of July this year, the communes with the worst ICA would be those located in the center and especially in the east of the city, which includes communes 21, 14, 13 and 7 through the Vallegrande, Compartir, Decepaz, Talanga, Potrero Grande, Pizamos, Manuela Beltrán, Puertas del Sol, Alfonso Bonilla Aragón, El Poblado, Charco Azul, Marroquín, Los Lagos, Alfonso López, Air Base and Siete de Agosto neighborhoods, among others , demystifying the popular belief that the north of Cali near Yumbo through the Industrial Zone is a highly polluted area.

The communes with the best air quality would be the northern part of 2, 4, 5 and 6 and the western side of 1, 20, 19, 18 and 22 facing the Farallones because they receive the Pacific winds and also the commune 17. Thus, having among the neighborhoods with the best ICA El Refugio, El Lido, San Fernando, Miraflores, Camino Real, Pampalinda, Brisas de Mayo and Siloé, among others.
